Curtis Curly-Tail News and More!

Hi everyone! Here with another thrilling update to Curtis Curly-Tail! Our new episode is just around the corner, and with all of the hard work the team has put behind the scenes, I wanted to share some of the really cool stuff that has been happening! We are going to talk about everything from a new production flow, updates to some of our 3D models for characters, and more!

Let’s talk production!

An animator’s best friend is a smooth process, and now that I’ve joined the animation team here working on Curtis Curly-Tail, we have been able to really boost and make the animation process for the episodes a lot more stream-lined! Whilst Brad is able to take on the majority of the character animation, laying out each scene and the surrounding set, I work on the lip-sync animation for all of the characters in the episode, and adding final tweaks and animation to the characters before we begin our rendering phase! We have also upgraded our project managing software, and thanks to Brad, have a unique and custom way to keep track on our progress for Curtis!

New Models, New Problems!

While working on this new episode, Brad got the chance to make some exciting new updates to a few of our cast of characters, and some new ones! Zou has come back from the salon looking stylish in her new feathers! Throughout the past couple of weeks, Brad and I had noticed a weird noise texture that would apply to all of our feathered friends, creating a blurry and noise effect to our final image after render- and this simply wouldn’t do! Brad did a lot of research, and through a lot of trial and error, and I mean a lot- we finally got Zou to where she is in this new episode! Fluffy, feathery, and full of joy having embarked on this new adventure with Curtis! This was done by refining the feathers through a particle emission! We also made the resolution size of the screen larger, which will help with a more clearer image!

To The Rescue!

The next bird to get a new update was one of our newest character’s that will be introduced in the episode, Oliver! While I had been working on his animation in one of his dialogue scenes, I found something quite jarring! Whenever Oliver opened his mouth, you could see the inside of the head, and the back of his eyeballs! Obviously this was something that we didn’t want, and Brad was quick to swoop in and save the day! He went in and added a new mouth to Oliver’s 3D model, and also did a bit of feather trimming to get his feathers looking as good as Zou’s!

What’s next?

Stay tuned, for Episode 3 of Curtis Curly-Tail is coming out very soon, and we cannot wait for everyone to watch! If you are not caught up yet on Episode 1 and 2, now is your chance to watch!
